Our global partner is the Lwala Community Alliance. Located in a rural area in Western Kenya this organization was founded by Kenyan brothers Milton and Fred Ochieng’, subjects of the documentary film “Sons of Lwala”. While the brothers were in college in the United States, they lost both of their parents to AIDS. Milton and Fred took this as a call to action to provide access to primary care in their home village and opened the Lwala Community Hospital, where more than 30,000 patient visits are provided each year. The hospital now sits at the center of a multi-dimensional program, which includes ongoing public health outreach to 3,800 homes, auxiliary education projects reaching 6,000 students at government schools, and micro-enterprise activities training hundreds of local people. This body of work has grown significantly since 2007 to serve a population of more than 20,000 people and employ 180 Kenyans.
With this growth comes larger need for infrastructure which is where TB Cares can help! "The success of Lwala lies in the hands of our staff. A lack of onsite housing in the village effect the response time to emergencies and limits the ability to attract top medical staff needed as the demand in the community continues to grow. Having medical physicians onsite is an integral part of our growth." - Milton and Fred Ochieng' This is why TB Cares has committed to partner with Lwala in filling this need.
OUR 2018 GOAL: To Build 1 Multi-Family home for medical professional to live while they serve patients in the community's hospital.
